Community Emergency Response Team
The Sun City Center Community Emergency Response team is one of thousands of CERT groups organized across the nation. Its main purpose is to help communities in disaster situations such as major hurricanes when professional responders, including fire and police departments, are overwhelmed. CERT training is provided by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. The training stresses taking care of yourself, your family, your neighbors and your community. The CERT training covers topics such as fire suppression, hazardous materials incidents, light search and rescue and disaster medical operations. Some people take the training simply for their own information and protection. That’s fine. If, after the training, you do join CERT, you will have the opportunity to build your skills through regular drills and monthly meetings. Meetings: 7 p.m. fourth Wednesday of each month in the Florida Room of the Atrium Building. For more information, contact Donna Frasier (633-1124), Frank Hobbs (642-0556) or Eileen Courter (633-8540).
